When you confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ died for your sins and believe in your heart that you are justified by faith, then you are saved and made righteous.
Romans 5: 19
“For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous”.
Through one man sin brought condemnation for everyone, through an act of righteousness, Christ brought justification and life for all men.
Death came through Adam because of disobedience and sin, but the gift of grace came through Christ, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Through the disobedience of Adam which brought sin, Christ brought righteousness through an act of obedience so that grace might reign through righteousness for eternal life.
Righteousness is obtained through faith in Jesus Christ and not by works, as we do not operate under the law but through faith, yet we still uphold the law (Romans 3: 31).
Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
Romans 13: 8-10
8 “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.
9 The commandments, “Do not commit adultery”, “Do not murder”, “Do not steal”, “Do not covet”, and whatever other commandments there may be, are summed up in this one rule; “Love your neighbour as yourself”.
10 Love does no harm to its neighbour. Therefore love is the fulfilment of the law.
It is not easy to love your neighbour as you love yourself, unless you are in Christ Jesus does it make sense. Even as Christians, Paul says we have to practice hospitality. The kingdom of God is of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. When we practice walking in love we won’t want to harm our neighbour and break any commandment. As Christ is the end of the law Romans 10: 4, love is the fulfilment of the law.
The Jews obtained righteousness through the law by works, but now both Jew and Gentile can obtain righteousness through faith in Christ Jesus.
Romans 9: 30-32
30 “What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith;
31 but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it.
32 Why not, Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works.
Christians do not believe in superstition and therefore we do not send out or pass on chain letters!
“one of a sequence of letters, each recipient in the sequence being requested to send copies to a specific number of other people”. (Google)
“a belief or way of behaving that is based on fear of the unknown and faith in magic or luck: a belief that certain events or things will bring good or bad luck”. (Merriam-Webster)
I have seen a few of these chain letters in my Whatsapp account as well as on Facebook. These messages contain information that is supposed to bring you “luck” or warn you that if you do not pass on to x amount of people that the chain will be broken and it could bring you bad luck or that something terrible could happen to you.
As a Christian, our faith is in a living God who is our refuge and help (Psalm 46: 1) and not in a series of events that is based on fear of the unknown. As Christians we should rebuke and denounce these letters immediately as they are just a doorway for fear and belief in magic and luck that is not of God. Our belief is in Jesus Christ and we can send each other messages of encouragement through the word of God.
“All around terrors frighten him, And harry him at every step.
1 Timothy 4: 7
“Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly”.
